The Mazda CX-8 is a three-row SUV with six or seven seats, built mainly for Japan from 2017 to 2023. Think of it as a longer CX-5 with an extra row. It is well built, comfortable on long drives and much cheaper second-hand than most seven-seat SUVs.
Engines
- 2.2 diesel (XD): the most common. Strong pulling power and very good economy for a big SUV.
- 2.5 petrol (25S): simpler, better if diesel quality is poor where you live.
- 2.5 turbo petrol (25T): the most powerful, uses more fuel.
2WD and AWD versions exist.
Grades
- PROACTIVE: more safety and convenience equipment.
- L Package: leather seats and luxury equipment.
- Exclusive Mode: the top grade.
- Six-seat versions have two captain's chairs in the middle row; seven-seat versions have a bench.
Diesel: Read This First
Mazda's SKYACTIV-D diesels need low-sulphur diesel and regular longer drives. Mostly short city trips can clog the diesel particulate filter. If fuel quality is poor where you live, choose a petrol CX-8.
What to Check
- Diesel (XD): ask about warning lights, smoke or notes about the particulate filter.
- Third row: check the rear seats fold and lock properly.
- Safety sensors: windscreen or front-end repairs can affect the cameras and radar.
- Auction sheet: read how to read a Japanese auction sheet.
Age Limits: Which Countries Can Take One
Some countries cap the age of an imported car: Jamaica allows up to 5 years, Trinidad & Tobago 4 years, and Kenya and Guyana 8 years. The Bahamas, Barbados, Suriname, the Eastern Caribbean islands such as Saint Lucia and Antigua, Uganda and Tanzania have no strict age limit on our checker. Rules change, so always confirm with your clearing agent before you pay.
A 2018-onwards CX-8 can go to Kenya and Guyana; 2021-onwards cars also to Jamaica.
The table at the bottom of this page applies each country's rule to our live stock and shows the cheapest delivered price. For the full list see import age limits by country, and for duty and port fees see how to calculate the total cost.
