The Mazda Demio is Mazda's small hatchback, renamed Mazda2 in 2019. The Mazda CX-3 is a small SUV built on the same base, and the older Mazda Verisa (2004–2015) was a more upmarket small hatch from an earlier Demio. All three are economical, well made and nicer to drive than most cars their size.
Demio / Mazda2 (2014 onwards)
- 1.3 petrol (13S) and 1.5 petrol (15S, 15C): simple and economical.
- 1.5 diesel (XD): very economical on long drives.
- 15C is a well-equipped 1.5 petrol grade; L Package adds leather.
CX-3 (2015 onwards)
- 1.5 and 1.8 diesel (XD) and 2.0 petrol (20S).
- PROACTIVE adds safety equipment; S Package adds more.
- Higher seating and more ground clearance than the Demio, but a similar-size boot.
Diesel or Petrol?
Mazda's SKYACTIV-D diesels need low-sulphur diesel and regular longer drives. For city use or where fuel quality is poor, choose petrol.
What to Check
- Diesel (XD): ask about warning lights, smoke or notes about the particulate filter.
- Gearbox: most are 6-speed automatics; ask about harsh or slipping shifts.
- Safety sensors: windscreen or front-end repairs can affect them.
- Mileage: see how to spot odometer rollback.
- Auction sheet: read how to read a Japanese auction sheet.
Age Limits: Which Countries Can Take One
Some countries cap the age of an imported car: Jamaica allows up to 5 years, Trinidad & Tobago 4 years, and Kenya and Guyana 8 years. The Bahamas, Barbados, Suriname, the Eastern Caribbean islands such as Saint Lucia and Antigua, Uganda and Tanzania have no strict age limit on our checker. Rules change, so always confirm with your clearing agent before you pay.
A 2018-onwards Demio or CX-3 can go to Kenya and Guyana. A Verisa is too old for those and suits the no-limit markets.
The table at the bottom of this page applies each country's rule to our live stock and shows the cheapest delivered price. For the full list see import age limits by country, and for duty and port fees see how to calculate the total cost.
