Before you fall in love with a car, check one thing: is it young enough for your country? Many countries ban imported used cars above a certain age. Others have no limit but tax older cars more. Getting this wrong can mean a car that can't be registered.
This guide lists the age rules our website uses for the countries we ship to, and shows how much of our stock actually qualifies in each one.
How Age Is Counted
Most countries count age from the year of manufacture (sometimes the year of first registration). A 2018 car is treated as 8 years old in 2026. Some countries count in months, not calendar years, which can matter for a car close to the limit. If the car is right on the edge, ask your clearing agent before you pay.
Countries With a Maximum Age
| Country | Maximum age | Oldest model year in 2026 | Our cars that qualify* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seychelles | 3 years | 2023 | 4 |
| Trinidad & Tobago | 4 years | 2022 | 10 |
| Mauritius | 4 years | 2022 | 10 |
| Jamaica | 5 years | 2021 | 15 |
| Dominican Republic | 5 years | 2021 | 15 |
| Kenya | 8 years | 2018 | 71 |
| Guyana | 8 years | 2018 | 71 |

Some of these countries have different or extra rules for commercial vehicles, trucks and buses, so if you are importing a work vehicle, check the rule for that category.
Countries With a Minimum Age
A few countries do the opposite: they mostly allow only old imports, typically 25 years or older, under "classic" rules.
- United States: the 25-year rule. See our 25-year rule guide.
- Australia: older vehicles under the 25-year scheme, or approved newer models under separate schemes. See our Australia guide.
About 5 of our current cars are old enough.
Countries With No Strict Age Limit
Our site's checker shows no strict age limit for these countries, so every car in our stock can be considered:
- Caribbean: Bahamas, Barbados, Suriname, Haiti, Cuba, Turks & Caicos, Cayman Islands, Aruba, and the Eastern Caribbean (Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent). See the Eastern Caribbean guide.
- East Africa: Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, D.R. Congo, Somalia.
- Europe and Oceania: UK, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand. These have strict roadworthiness and emissions checks instead of an age limit.
"No age limit" doesn't mean "no extra cost". Several of these countries charge higher duty or levies on older cars. Uganda has an environmental levy on older vehicles, and Tanzania adds extra excise duty for older cars. Rules also change, so always confirm with your clearing agent.
Why It Matters for Your Budget
Age limits change what you can afford. For example, for a Suzuki Every kei van:
- To Uganda or Tanzania, all 26 of ours qualify, from about $2,000 delivered to Mombasa.
- To Kenya, only 3 qualify (2019–2020), from about $2,500.
- To Jamaica or Trinidad, none of our current Everys are new enough.
So buyers in strict-rule countries should budget for a newer car from the start.
