In 2020 Toyota replaced the Vitz with the new Yaris hatchback in Japan, and added the Yaris Cross, a compact SUV built on the same base. Because both are recent, they are among the few Japanese used cars that fit strict age limits like Jamaica's 5-year and Trinidad's 4-year rules.
Yaris or Yaris Cross?

The 1.5 hybrid is Toyota's newest small hybrid system and is extremely economical. AWD Yaris Cross hybrids use a rear electric motor (Toyota calls it E-Four).
Grades
- X: basic. The Yaris "X" with the 1.0 engine is the cheapest.
- G: mid grade.
- Z: top grade with more equipment.
- Special names such as Hybrid S or X Limited appear in listings too; the grade is always part of the listing name.
All come with Toyota Safety Sense (automatic braking, lane assist).
What to Check
- Hybrid system: ask whether the auction sheet mentions any hybrid warning.
- Safety sensors: check for windscreen replacement or front-end repair, which can affect the camera.

Age Limits: Which Countries Can Take One
Some countries cap the age of an imported car: Jamaica allows up to 5 years, Trinidad & Tobago 4 years, and Kenya and Guyana 8 years. The Bahamas, Barbados, Suriname, the Eastern Caribbean islands such as Saint Lucia and Antigua, Uganda and Tanzania have no strict age limit on our checker. Rules change, so always confirm with your clearing agent before you pay.
Most Yaris and Yaris Cross cars in stock are new enough for Kenya, Guyana and Jamaica, and the newest also for Trinidad.
