The Toyota Wish is a seven-seat people carrier that drives like a car: it is lower than a van like the Noah, with normal doors instead of sliding ones. It is comfortable, economical for its size and uses simple Toyota mechanicals, which makes it popular with families and taxi operators in East Africa and the Caribbean.
Generations
| Generation | Years | Engines |
|---|---|---|
| 1st (AE10) | 2003–2009 | 1.8 and 2.0 petrol |
| 2nd (AE20) | 2009–2017 | 1.8 and 2.0 petrol |
- Grades: X (basic, often with packages such as "HID Selection"), S (sporty, 2.0), Z (top, 2.0 with sporty styling).
- Most have 7 seats; some have 6 with two middle captain's chairs. 4WD versions exist.
Third Row
The third row is fine for children and short trips for adults. If you need seven full-size seats every day, look at a van instead: see our 7 and 8 seater family vans guide.
What to Check
- CVT gearbox: ask whether the inspector noted judder or whining. (most); some older cars have a 4-speed automatic.
- Seats: check the third row folds and locks properly.
- Mileage: see how to spot odometer rollback.
- Rust: check underneath on cars from northern Japan.
- Auction sheet: read how to read a Japanese auction sheet.
Age Limits: Which Countries Can Take One
Some countries cap the age of an imported car: Jamaica allows up to 5 years, Trinidad & Tobago 4 years, and Kenya and Guyana 8 years. The Bahamas, Barbados, Suriname, the Eastern Caribbean islands such as Saint Lucia and Antigua, Uganda and Tanzania have no strict age limit on our checker. Rules change, so always confirm with your clearing agent before you pay.
The Wish stopped production in 2017, so it is now too old for Kenya, Guyana and Jamaica. It suits the no-limit markets such as the Bahamas, Barbados and Suriname; check the latest rules for Uganda before you buy.
The table at the bottom of this page applies each country's rule to our live stock and shows the cheapest delivered price. For the full list see import age limits by country, and for duty and port fees see how to calculate the total cost.
