Hino is Toyota's truck company, and its trucks are some of the most common Japanese commercial vehicles abroad. The two you will usually find are the Hino Dutro light truck and the Hino Ranger medium truck. The Toyota Dyna is the same truck as the Dutro, sold with Toyota badges, so this guide covers it too.
Which Truck?
| Truck | Class | Typical engine | Typical load |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dutro / Dyna | Light truck | 4.0 diesel | About 2–4 tonnes |
| Ranger | Medium truck | 5.1 diesel | About 4–8 tonnes |
Common Bodies
- Dump truck: tipping body for sand, gravel and construction. A "3-way dump" tips to the back and both sides.
- Flatbed / cargo: general transport.
- Power gate (tail lift): a hydraulic lift at the back for loading heavy goods. "Long body" versions carry more.
- Crane, refrigerated and other special bodies also appear.
What to Check
- Dump body and hydraulics: raise and lower the body, and check the hydraulic pump and cylinders for leaks.
- Power gate: check it lifts evenly and holds its position.
- Diesel engine: ask about smoke, hard starting or knocking. Newer engines have an exhaust filter system that needs regular longer runs.
- Chassis and frame: look for cracks, welding repairs and rust, which signal overloading.
- Tyres and brakes: check tread and the air or hydraulic brake system.
- Registration class: confirm the truck's weight class is allowed where you live and what licence it needs.
- Auction sheet: read how to read a Japanese auction sheet.
Age Limits: Which Countries Can Take One
Some countries cap the age of an imported car: Jamaica allows up to 5 years, Trinidad & Tobago 4 years, and Kenya and Guyana 8 years. The Bahamas, Barbados, Suriname, the Eastern Caribbean islands such as Saint Lucia and Antigua, Uganda and Tanzania have no strict age limit on our checker. Rules change, so always confirm with your clearing agent before you pay.
Commercial vehicles can have different age rules from cars in some countries, so confirm with your agent. Trucks older than 8 years suit the no-limit markets.
The table at the bottom of this page applies each country's rule to our live stock and shows the cheapest delivered price. For the full list see import age limits by country, and for duty and port fees see how to calculate the total cost.
