The Suzuki Every (van) and Suzuki Carry (mini pickup truck) are some of the cheapest and most useful vehicles you can import from Japan. They are small "kei" vehicles with a 660cc engine, built for Japanese farmers, delivery drivers and tradesmen. In East Africa they work just as hard: deliveries, market trading, farm work and small businesses.
We currently have 26 Every vans, 16 Carry trucks and 3 Wagon R hatchbacks in stock, which makes this the biggest group of cars we sell.
Suzuki Every (Van)
- Generations: DA64 (2005–2015) and DA17 (2015 onward). The DA17 is roomier and more modern inside.
- Trims you'll see: PA (basic), PC, Join (better equipped) and Join Turbo. The turbo helps a lot when the van is loaded or on hills.
- Gearbox: manual, a conventional automatic, or on the DA17 an automated manual ("AGS"). Test that the AGS changes smoothly.
- Every Wagon is the passenger version with more comfortable seats.
Suzuki Carry (Mini Truck)
- A flat-bed pickup that can carry about 350 kg.
- KC is the basic trim; higher trims add power steering, air conditioning and better seats. Check which one the listing is.
- 3-way dump versions tip the bed to the back and both sides, which is useful for farms and building materials.
- For more detail on kei trucks, see our kei truck buying guide.
Suzuki Wagon R (Hatchback)
A small, very economical city car. Our current stock is 2019 Wagon R hybrids (mild hybrid), which fit Kenya's age rule.
4WD or 2WD?
Many Every and Carry models come with part-time 4WD, often with a low range or a differential lock. For unpaved roads and farm use it is worth the small extra cost. Check the listing or ask us.
What to Check Before You Buy
- Rust underneath: kei vans often work in snowy parts of Japan where roads are salted. Look at the underbody photos and the auction sheet's rust notes.
- Mileage vs condition: work vans can have high mileage (some of ours are over 300,000 km). A high-mileage van with a good auction grade can still be a good buy, but price it accordingly.
- Turbo (Join Turbo): ask whether the auction inspector noted any smoke or noise.
- Load bed (Carry): dents, rust holes and the condition of the tailgate hinges.
- Auction sheet: read it before anything else. See how to read a Japanese auction sheet.
