The third-generation Honda Insight (sold in Japan from 2018 to 2022) is a comfortable hybrid sedan based on the Honda Civic. It has a roomy cabin and boot, a quiet ride and very low fuel use, and it tends to cost less than a hybrid Camry or Accord.
Powertrain
The Insight uses Honda's 1.5 two-motor hybrid (called i-MMD, later e:HEV). The electric motor drives the car most of the time and the petrol engine mainly charges the battery. It feels smooth and electric in town, and there is no conventional gearbox to wear out.
Grades
- LX: well equipped.
- EX: more luxury equipment, such as leather and bigger wheels.
- EX Black Style: EX with dark styling details.
All come with Honda Sensing (automatic braking, adaptive cruise, lane keeping).
What to Check
- Hybrid warning lights: ask whether the auction sheet mentions any.
- Honda Sensing sensors: a replaced windscreen or front-end repair can affect them.
- Tyres: low-profile tyres on EX grades are more expensive to replace.
- Mileage: see how to spot odometer rollback.
- Auction sheet: read how to read a Japanese auction sheet.

Age Limits: Which Countries Can Take One
Some countries cap the age of an imported car: Jamaica allows up to 5 years, Trinidad & Tobago 4 years, and Kenya and Guyana 8 years. The Bahamas, Barbados, Suriname, the Eastern Caribbean islands such as Saint Lucia and Antigua, Uganda and Tanzania have no strict age limit on our checker. Rules change, so always confirm with your clearing agent before you pay.
A 2018-onwards Insight can go to Kenya and Guyana, and a 2021-onwards one also to Jamaica.
The table at the bottom of this page applies each country's rule to our live stock and shows the cheapest delivered price. For the full list see import age limits by country, and for duty and port fees see how to calculate the total cost.
