Import cost
Japan car import cost calculator: FOB, shipping and landed cost
Enter the car's price in Japan and your port to see the C&F price (car + sea freight) using our current freight rates to 20 countries. Then add your country's duty and local charges, or send us the details for an exact quote.
Not included: import duty and taxes, port handling, clearing agent, inspection and registration in Antigua & Barbuda. These depend on the car and your country's current rules - ask your clearing agent or us for a quote. Transit time to Port of Saint John's: about 32-42 days.
What makes up the landed cost
- FOB price - the car, loaded on the ship in Japan. Inland transport and export paperwork are included.
- Sea freight - RoRo freight is charged per cubic metre, so a bigger car costs more to ship. FOB + freight = C&F.
- Insurance (optional) - adding marine insurance makes the price CIF.
- Import duty and taxes - set by your country, usually on the car's value, engine size and age.
- Port and clearing charges - port handling, clearing-agent fee, inspection and registration.
Items 1-2 are what we quote. Items 4-5 are paid in your country - your clearing agent can confirm them from the car's stock number, year and engine size.
Check the age rule first
Many countries limit how old an imported car can be - Kenya 8 years, Trinidad and Tobago 4 years for most cars, and others. Enter the car's year above and the calculator checks it for the port you picked. See import age limits by country.

Questions
What is the landed cost of a car from Japan?
Landed cost is everything you pay until the car is on the road: the car's FOB price in Japan, sea freight to your port (together these are the C&F price), plus import duty and taxes, port handling, clearing-agent fees, inspection and registration in your country.
How is shipping from Japan calculated?
RoRo freight is charged by the car's volume in cubic metres (length × width × height) multiplied by the rate to your port. A kei car is about 9 m³; a Hiace or Alphard is about 18 m³, so it costs roughly twice as much to ship.
What is the difference between FOB, C&F and CIF?
FOB is the car's price loaded on the ship in Japan. C&F (CFR) adds sea freight to your port. CIF also adds marine insurance. Duties and local charges are never included in any of them.
Why doesn't the calculator include import duty?
Duty and taxes depend on your country, the car's engine size, age and value, and the rules change. We'd rather tell you to confirm them with your clearing agent (or ask us) than show a number that might be wrong.
What do I need to send for an exact quote?
The stock number or link of the car, your destination country and port, and whether you want RoRo or container shipping. We reply on WhatsApp with the exact C&F price.
