"Pixis" is the name Toyota puts on Daihatsu-built kei cars (660cc, Japan's smallest car class). They're the same cars as Daihatsu's, so parts and know-how are shared.
Which Pixis is which
| Toyota name | Daihatsu twin | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Pixis Epoch | Mira e:S | Small, very economical 4-door |
| Pixis Mega | Wake | Tall wagon with huge headroom |
| Pixis Space | Move Conte | Boxy city car |
| Pixis Joy | Cast | Small crossover-style hatch |
| Pixis Van / Truck | Hijet | Kei van and mini truck |
All use 660cc three-cylinders (some turbo) and mostly CVT automatics; 4WD versions exist.
Who they suit
Cheap commuting, tight streets and islands with short distances. They're not built for long highway runs with a full load.
What to check
- Turbo or not: the turbo makes a real difference on hills.
- 4WD if you have rough or steep roads.
- Kei registration: some countries treat kei cars differently for tax. Check locally.
