The CT200h was sold new in the UK, so Japanese imports are a direct match: right-hand drive, the same 1.8 hybrid, and plenty of UK parts and Lexus servicing. Japanese cars often have lower mileage and better equipment for the money.
The key rule: 10 years old
For a personal import to the UK:
- Cars under 10 years old generally need IVA (Individual Vehicle Approval) or another approval route before registration. That's more work and cost.
- Cars 10 years or older skip IVA. They need an MOT test and then registration with the DVLA.
Most of our CT200hs are 2011–2016, so they fall in the simpler 10-years-plus route. That is a big reason the early CTs are the best-value UK imports.
Steps
- Choose the car and pay. We ship to a UK port (typically Southampton or Bristol).
- Clear customs: import duty and VAT are charged on the car plus freight.
- Notify the DVLA of the import (NOVA).
- Fit UK-spec items if needed (speedometer showing mph, rear fog light) and pass the MOT.
- Register with the DVLA (V55/5) and get UK plates.
What to check for UK use
- Hybrid battery health on higher-mileage cars.
- The satnav and radio are Japanese-market; most owners fit a UK head unit or use phone mirroring.
