The Arteon is Volkswagen's large fastback, with a lift-back body, frameless doors and a long wheelbase. In Japan it was sold almost only in one high spec: TSI 4Motion R-Line Advance, so nearly every Arteon we list is well equipped.
The Japanese spec
- 2.0 TSI turbo petrol (code 3HDJHF), all-wheel drive (4Motion).
- 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic.
- R-Line Advance: R-Line body kit, leather, adaptive dampers (DCC), digital cockpit and driver-assist package.
- A Shooting Brake (estate) version arrived later (code 3HDNUF).
Right-hand drive throughout.
What to check
- DSG service: the wet-clutch DSG needs fluid changes at intervals; ask for the record.
- Haldex 4Motion oil service.
- DCC adaptive dampers and electronics: no warning lights in the dashboard photo.
Why it's good value
Large VWs lose value quickly in Japan, so an Arteon often costs about the same as a smaller, older car elsewhere, with more space and equipment.
