Guyana drives on the left, like Japan, so Japanese cars go straight onto the road with no conversion. Most "used cars for sale in Guyana" are Japanese imports, and buying direct avoids the dealer markup in Georgetown.
The 8-year rule
Private motor cars can be up to 8 years old, so in 2026, cars built in 2018 or later. Buses and other vehicle classes have their own limits. Our Guyana list below only shows cars that pass.
Duty and excise
Guyana's customs duty and excise tax depend on engine size and age, charged on the CIF value. Small engines (under 1,500cc) pay the least, and the tax steps up sharply for bigger engines and older cars. This is why the Premio, Allion and Axio, with their 1.5–1.8 litre engines, are so popular.
What Guyanese buy most
- Toyota Premio, Allion, Axio and Fielder: the classic Georgetown cars.
- Toyota Raize and Yaris Cross: small SUVs with small engines.
- Toyota Noah and Voxy: family vans.
- Toyota Hilux: for the interior and work.
Browse: Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda.
