The Cayman Islands drive on the left, like Japan, so Japanese used cars are a natural fit: right-hand drive, no conversion, no age limit. Car prices on the island are high, which makes importing direct worth a look.
No age limit, but duty on value
Cayman has no strict age limit on used imports. Import duty is charged on the CIF value (car plus freight), and the rate depends on the car's value band. That favours sensible, well-priced cars over expensive ones. Ask Customs and Border Control or a broker for the current bands.
What suits Grand Cayman
- Hybrids (Toyota Aqua, Nissan Note e-Power, Honda Fit): short island trips, low fuel use.
- Small SUVs (Honda Vezel, Toyota C-HR, Raize): a little more ground clearance for flooded roads in the wet season.
- Toyota Noah and Voxy: 7–8 seat family vans.
- Toyota Harrier and RAV4: comfortable larger SUVs.
Browse: Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda.
Salt air
Island cars live with salt and humidity. Japanese cars usually arrive rust-free, and an underbody protective coating after arrival is worth it.
