The Soarer was Toyota's luxury grand-touring coupé for Japan, the twin of the Lexus SC. Our stock covers several generations, but the Z30 draws the most interest.
Generations
- Z20 (1986–1991): classic 80s GT with straight sixes.
- Z30 (1991–2000): 2.5GT Twin Turbo with the 1JZ-GTE, the 4.0 V8 (1UZ-FE, = Lexus SC400), and 3.0 versions. Some have Toyota's active suspension.
- Z40 (2001–2005): the folding hardtop convertible, the same car as the Lexus SC430 (4.3 V8).
What to check
- Z30 suspension: cars with active or air suspension need it working; many have been converted to coilovers.
- 1JZ-GTE health on 2.5GT cars, and gearbox type (most are automatic).
- Z40 roof mechanism: it should fold smoothly without leaks.
The 25-year rule
All Z20s and Z30s are 25+ years old, so they qualify for the USA and Australia. See JDM to the USA.
