Toyota re-launched the Hilux in Japan in 2017, and Japanese-market Hiluxes are double-cab, 4WD, 2.4 turbo-diesel automatics: exactly the spec most export markets want. Most of our stock is 2022 or newer.
Grades
- X: the work grade, with simpler trim and steel wheels on some.
- Z: the main grade, with LED lights, alloys and better interior.
- GR Sport: sports suspension, GR styling and the most equipment.
All share the 2.4 diesel (2GD-FTV), 6-speed automatic and part-time 4WD with low range.
What to check
- Bed use: look for heavy-load wear and bed-liner condition.
- Off-road use: check underbody photos for scrapes.
- Diesel particulate filter on trucks used only in town.
Duty note
Some countries tax pickups as commercial vehicles (different duty, age rules or registration). In the US, light trucks pay 25% duty under the "chicken tax". Check your country's rules.
