The Celica spans five decades in our stock, from 1970s classics to the last 2006 cars. Two versions get the most interest: the rally-bred GT-Four and the high-revving SS-II.
Key generations
- T180 (1989–1993) and T200 (1993–1999): the GT-Four (ST185, ST205) has a 2.0 turbo (3S-GTE) and full-time AWD. It was homologated for the World Rally Championship.
- T230 (1999–2006): front-wheel drive; the SS-II has the 1.8 2ZZ-GE with VVTL-i (revs past 8,000 rpm) and a 6-speed manual.
- Earlier Celicas (1970s–80s): collectible classics.
What to check
- Rust: sills, arches and the strut towers on older cars.
- GT-Four turbo and AWD system: boost, smoke and centre-diff behaviour.
- 2ZZ lift-bolt wear on hard-driven SS-IIs.
The 25-year rule
Every Celica built in 2001 or earlier, including all GT-Fours, is 25+ years old, so it can go to the USA and Australia. See JDM to the USA.
