Two JDM sedans that later wore Lexus badges abroad, both wanted by enthusiasts.
Toyota Aristo (Lexus GS)
- JZS147 (1991–1997): 3.0 V with the 2JZ-GTE twin turbo.
- JZS161 (1997–2004): V300 with the 2JZ-GTE, the same engine family as the Supra. Mostly automatic, with AWD versions too.
The 2JZ-GTE makes the Aristo a cheap way into Supra power.
Toyota Altezza (Lexus IS)
- RS200 (SXE10, 1998–2005): 2.0 BEAMS 3S-GE, often with a 6-speed manual. The enthusiast pick.
- AS200 (GXE10): 2.0 straight-six (1G-FE), the same as the Lexus IS200.
- Gita: the wagon version.
What to check
- Aristo turbo system: sequential twin turbos need to work properly; check for boost lag and smoke.
- Altezza manual gearbox and limited-slip diff on RS200s.
- Modifications and drift use.
The 25-year rule
All JZS147s, and Aristos and Altezzas built in 2001 or earlier, are 25+ years old, so they qualify for the USA and Australia. See JDM to the USA.
