Japan is one of MINI's biggest markets outside Europe, and almost every MINI sold there is right-hand drive with an automatic gearbox. Most of the cars we list are only a few years old, with low mileage, because Japanese owners tend to change cars early and the two-year shaken inspection makes keeping an older car expensive.
Which MINIs are in our stock
- The F55/F56 Hatch (to 2024): 3-door and 5-door, 1.5 three-cylinder Cooper, 2.0 Cooper S and the Cooper D diesel, which Japan sold in large numbers and Europe largely dropped.
- The new Cooper (2024 on): called Cooper C and Cooper S, with a 7-speed dual-clutch (DCT), and the battery-electric Cooper E/SE.
- Countryman: the larger crossover, including Countryman D diesel and ALL4 four-wheel drive.
Model codes in the listing tell them apart: XU15MW / XV15MW are the outgoing 1.5 Cooper, while codes such as 62GA20 belong to the new generation.
What to check on a used MINI
- Auction grade and the inspection sheet. Every lot shows them; grade 4 and above means minor marks only.
- Run-flat tyres. Many Japanese MINIs leave the factory on run-flats; they ride firmer and cost more to replace.
- Diesel or petrol for your market. Some countries tax diesel cars heavily, others favour them. Check before you pick a Cooper D.
- Electric models: ask us for the battery state-of-health screen, and check that your country's chargers match the car's socket.
Who can import one
Most MINIs we hold are 2022 or newer, so they pass the tighter age limits too: Jamaica (5 years), Trinidad and Tobago (4 years), Mauritius (4 years), Guyana and Kenya (8 years). The table below shows, live, how many each country accepts and the cheapest one delivered to its main port.
