The Atenza is the Japanese name for the Mazda6. Japanese-market cars are right-hand drive, and the diesel versions are excellent long-distance cars at low prices.
Generations
- GJ (2012–2018, codes GJ2FP / GJ5FP / GJEFP): most of our stock.
- XD: 2.2 SKYACTIV-D twin-turbo diesel, lots of torque and very good economy.
- 25S / 20S: 2.5 and 2.0 petrol.
- L Package: leather and more equipment.
- GG (2002–2008): including the Mazdaspeed Atenza with a 2.3 turbo and AWD, a niche enthusiast car.
What to check on the XD diesel
- Short-trip use: the SKYACTIV-D dislikes constant short trips (carbon build-up and DPF). Highway-driven cars are better.
- Oil level and service history: dilution can occur during DPF regeneration.
- Injector and turbo behaviour on the drive video.
Petrol or diesel
Diesel for long distances and towing; the 25S petrol for simpler maintenance in markets where diesel expertise is scarce.
