"DS 3" covers two different cars, and listings often just say DS 3. Here's how to tell them apart.
DS3 hatchback (2010–2019)
Launched as the Citroën DS3, later sold as the DS 3: a 3-door premium supermini. Codes start A5C…. Engines: 1.2 PureTech and 1.6 petrol (including the 1.6 turbo in Sport Chic and Racing). Manual and automatic gearboxes both appear.
DS 3 Crossback (2019 on)
A completely different small SUV with hidden door handles and a 5-door body. Codes start D34…. Engines: 1.2 PureTech petrol with an 8-speed automatic, or the 1.5 BlueHDi diesel; an electric E-Tense also exists.
Grades
Chic, So Chic, Sport Chic, Performance Line and Grand Chic (the top grade, with leather and LED Vision headlights).
What to check
- PureTech timing belt (wet belt) service history.
- Hatchback convertibles: some DS3s have a fabric "Cabrio" roof. Check the fabric and drains.
- Crossback electronics: door handles, screens and driver aids.
Who can import one
Japanese DS 3s are right-hand drive. Hatchbacks suit no-age-limit markets (UK, Ireland, the Bahamas, Barbados); 2021-on Crossbacks also pass 5-year limits. The table below is live.
